Summary: This deliverable offers a theoretical background on which the KM services will be based. It deals with the meta-models necessary for the Knowledge Management services and concerns the development and the choices of CoP-independent ontologies.
The existing models for each main concept determined as important in a CoP are presented, the discussions on these models summarized and finally the proposal of the model adopted for Palette is presented.
Top-level part of the O’CoP ontology (temporarily) available at: http://www-sop.inria.fr/acacia/project/palette/models/
Summary: This deliverable describes the O’CoP ontology developed in the framework of Task 3.2 in WP3. It first presents the method used for building the ontology, and then details the results of each phase, as well as our return of experience for each step (e.g. information source analysis, contextualised lexicon proposal, validation by CoPs representatives and observers, terminological analysis, ontology conceptualisation and structuring, formalisation). The ontology obtained from analysis of information sources from eleven CoPs involved in Palette is composed of a concept hierarchy and a relation hierarchy, with concepts related to Community, Actor, Competency, Learner-profile, Collaboration, Process/Activity, Decision-making and Resource. We also describe the ECCO tool that supported the method, and our return of experience on its use.
Summary: This deliverable proposes a preliminary specification of basic KM services interesting for CoPs. It describes their functionalities, their possible interfaces with other services and with the human user; as well as possible uses of these basic KM services by CoPs.
Various tools available among the partners, that could offer some of these basic services, are presented. A web service-oriented architecture enabling to offer all such KM services in a modular way with possible interoperability with other Palette services or with some CoP tools, is proposed.
Summary: This deliverable presents the Knowledge Management (KM) services developped in the context of WP3. On the one hand, it presents the technical descriptions of basic KM services based on Corese/SeWese and Generis: these services provide low level operation of KM, they will not be directly used by the CoPs, but by the designers and the developers of the PALETTE project . On the other hand, it presents functional specifications and a first report of the use of complex KM sevices : ECCO, SweetWiki and BayFac (these services are or will be used by the Palette CoPs.).
Summary: This deliverable first analyzes some integration problems encountered during the integration of the O’CoP ontology that was developed by several ontologists. Then, it describes several experiments of development of CoP-specific ontologies. Last, this deliverable compares these different ontologies with related work and analyzes them from reusability viewpoint.
Summary: This deliverable describes several KM services developed for CoPs. It details the current achievements on the developments of the semantic wiki SweetWiki offering collaborative knowledge creation services. It presents SemanticFAQ that offers a service for semi-automatic annotation of a corpus of e-mails and enables information retrieval from such e-mails. The results of a first user-centered evaluation of SemanticFAQ portal are also presented. Then the deliverable describes the principles and architecture of the KM LinkWidget, that is aimed at enabling CoP members to link resources stored in a repository with conversations in a discussion forum, by using semantic annotations of the resources and the discussions. Last, the deliverable describes the new functionalities of BayFac (offering a service of document classification and search), developed in order to take into account remarks of CoP members.
Summary: This deliverable describes the research work done in order to design the two last KM services envisioned in the Palette project: (1) a service for managing the evolution of CoP knowledge and (2) a service for evaluating this knowledge.
